Becoming a Dad isn't an excuse to neglect yourself

It isn’t just busy mums who need to take care of themselves. The majority of mums are usually running ragged after their kids, so of course they deserve to pamper themselves every now and again and as husbands, partners or friends we need to make that happen sometimes. But that’s no reason to neglect yourself as a father! By making sure you take care of yourself, you’ll feel great and set a great example for your kids. You’ve probably read about my dad diet previously but in addition here are some ideas so you can do just that. Prepare Healthy Meals In Advance You might not always have the time to eat healthily at home. This could lead to eating unhealthy fast food that impacts your health negatively and makes you feel sluggish, or worse, barely eating at all! By preparing healthy meals in advance, you’ll always have something to grab when you’re on the go. Prepare healthy snacks and healthy meals. Maybe you could even bulk make meals and freeze them, so you have something quick and healthy to heat up when you’re in a rush. You’ll be far less tempted to go for the healthy snacks, and your kids will understand the importance of eating for health and vitality! Get Exercise Where You Can If you’re always running around after your kids or have an active job, that can very well count as your exercise for the day. However, if you have a sedentary desk job, make sure you get exercise where possible. You don’t necessarily need a gym membership. You could even get out there and get active with your kids! You’ll all feel so much better when you’ve had a little exercise. It should help you all bond, too! I took my girls on a hike and we all loved the time together! Quit The Bad Habits Smoking and drinking are two bad habits that you should avoid in front of your kids, and doing in general! It can take a lot of willpower and effort to quit, but it’ll be one of the best things you ever do. You’ll feel so much more alive and full of energy. Of course you can have the odd drink, but you shouldn’t binge drink each night. Have a few nights off, and then limit the amount you have when you do drink. Smoking isn’t only bad for you, it’s bad for your kids too! Smoking can actually make you more stressed, rather than make you feel less stressed as many believe. If you’re a stressed out parent, the last thing you want to do is smoke!  Luckily I don’t smoke but I’ve dramatically reduced my drinking and it’s really made a difference in my pocket and my waist too. Pamper Yourself Every So Often Why not pamper yourself every so often too? Why should women get to have all the fun? Having a hot bath will relax stressed muscles and ease tension. You could even invest in a men’s facial to reduce signs of aging and relax. Have some ‘you’ time! Leave Work At Work Bringing work home can stress everybody out, not just you. Leave work at work and aim tp have as much quality family time as you can. If you can’t, make sure you segment work and home time to ensure your life doesn’t become one merged work/life puddle. Ban Electricals After A Certain Time Ban electricals after a certain time in the evening so you and your family are spending real time together. This means mobile phones, internet, maybe even TV. Sitting with your face in a screen all day every day is no good for you!]]>
