Top Training Tips: From Couch Potato To Sports Pro

Summer sees many of us feel motivated to put ourselves on some form of fitness journey. We feel inspired by the sunny days and brighter evenings. We feel fresher for eating more salads and less stodgy foods. But we also feel that urge to feel better about ourselves on the inside and out. Having more energy for our children and day to day lives. However, some of us find ourselves at a point where we have little or no fitness level, and so we want to get ourselves from zero to one hundred in record speed. It can’t always work like that, it needs to be a slow process. Which is why I thought I would share with you some of the top training tips to take you from nothing to sports pro this summer.     Make sure you have decent activewear and equipment Starting out any fitness journey may be daunting, but one of the biggest tips anyone can give you is to have decent activewear to help you on the journey. This also helps you to avoid any injuries when training. Of course, you may be thinking that you don’t want to spend a fortune on lot’s of clothing or equipment, but it is also essential to ensure that you can undertake the fitness journey you want. So start off with the basics and ensure you have decent footwear appropriate for the exercise you want to do. You don’t need fancy pants or tops, stick with a tracksuit or t-shirt if that’s what you’re comfortable in.   It’s important to warm up and cool down Going straight into a run or a full on exercise workout is never a good idea without warming up. Your muscles won’t have been used to that extent which means that if you don’t gradually build them up, you can cause yourself an injury. Of course, these things can happen, and if you do find yourself struggling with an injury then heading to a sports injury clinic could help you out. Just as warming up in important, the same can be said for cooling down, gradually letting your muscles calm down from intense exercise will again help to ensure that you stay in good shape and avoid injuries. However, make sure that you go to a clinic that employs properly accredited sports massage therapists who are fully trained in level 3 sports massage. If you get massaged by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing, you risk worsening your condition, because some types of injuries are what are known as “contraindications of massage”, which means that sports massage therapy should not be given because it could aggravate the injury. Only a qualified massage therapist should be relied upon to recognize such things.   Know your limits Sometimes we can be a little over the top when it comes to a new exercise regime and try and run before we can walk. This is why it is so important to know your limits and increase your exercise intensity gradually. Phone applications are a great way to track your progress and ensure you take things gradually.   No pain, no gain However, on another note as much as a gradual process is good, you still need to ensure that you are pushing yourself at the same time. No pain, no gain is a popular phrase you hear a lot. The best way to judge the level of intensity of exercise is to ensure you have a raised heart rate.   I hope these training tips help you go from couch potato to sports pro this summer.]]>
