Magical Christmas Holidays

As Christmas starts creeping up on us once again, I still remember the crazy time we drove to Switzerland. It was an amazing time which Beth, Mrs P and I will never forget. You see we went on a ridiculously crazy but utterly amazing holiday to Saint Bernard in Switzerland, travelled to Italy and got stopped as the road was snowed over! But there was snow, adventure and it really felt like Christmas. This led me to think about how are we going to give Dorothy that magical Christmas holiday. I want snowy landscapes, exhilarating adventure and potentially the chance to experience real reindeer. I know it’s only pipedreams for now, so I’ve picked out three places I’d wanna go and fingers crossed Santa is listening 🙂 1445861986-1445857403-1413478944-1413478926-1413478910-270b-snowmobiling-luosto-finland Finnish Lapland There’s no place like LAPLAND! This looks beautiful and I’m sure the kids will love the magical dark days, the frosty snow and the reindeer that look like they’ve come straight out of a Christmas movie! Apparently there’s over 34,000 reindeer?! Exploring Lapland in winter is the icing on the cake for a magic Christmas experience and one which we all dreamed about as kids. Hotels carved of ice, dining in an ice restaurant and interacting with the Sami people, it’s a fantastic holiday but maybe out of our price range for this year.

Avoriaz, France We experienced our first trip to France this year as a family in gorgeous Brittany, and it’s certainly a place to consider for a winter trip too. I’ve never been on the slopes but there is a desire to try, and I’ve heard great things about Avoriaz in France. The Village des Enfants also takes kids aged three and up so potentially in two and a half years. We’ll also love the horse-drawn sleigh ride you can book from the airport straight to your accommodation. WIN! kakslauttanen_glass_igloo_inside_2_1366x768Kakslauttanen, Finland Now this is a weird one as I’d never heard of it. But after looking at the amazing pictures it’s made it on to my Christmas wish list. Who wouldn’t want to spend their winter holiday in an igloo! There’s amazing glass igloos set deep in the snowy Arctic forest but it’s fully heated and comes complete with a huge glass ceiling so you can admire the landscape and skies from morning through to night. This is unreal! I’ve driven to Switzerland before so maybe we’ll look at Finland next time 🙂 I can imagine it’s like walking into Narnia. These are just three of my choices for potential Christmas destinations, I know it’s still a few months away but Dottie’s first Christmas should be as magical.

So where would you go?
