Staying Calm while Moving House

When you’re trying to do what you can to be more organized in life, you’ll often find that you get used to a set system and way of doing things. And that’s understandable Because you will always feel more comfortable when you find your feet and a rhythm that works best for you. But then, you may experience different stages of life that threaten to throw you off. Stressful situations can arise and you have to be able to manage them and really work to keep yourself balanced during the process. One of the most stressful experiences we all go through in life is moving. No matter how prepared you think you are, or how organized of a person you are, moving throws us all off. So let’s work out how you can stay as stress-free as possible during the move.  

  1. Give Yourself Time
First of all, if you’re going to get through this in one piece, you really do need to make sure that you’re giving yourself as much time as possible. If you try and rush things, it’s going to be hard. So, give yourself weeks or months to plan things out. Start your search early, give yourself a long lead time, and start planning your preparations well before you need to. This is the best way to keep yourself organized from the outset.  
  1. Write Lists
From here, you should then make sure that you’re compiling the right lists. If you have everything written out that you need to remember and that you need to do, you’ll have a much better chance at working everything out. From the bigger jobs like exchanging, to the smaller ones like hiring a cleaner, you need to have everything planned out and written down so that you don’t forget anything. Then you can allocate jobs to set days or stages to make sure everything gets done.
  1. Hire The Right People
You’re then going to want to bring in experts. If you know that you will struggle, find movers that can take the pressure off and a cleaner to take care of both houses too. If you’re incredibly busy and you can’t cut back during the move, hiring a professional organizer might help you here too. Just make sure that you get the people in place to make the process easier.  
  1. Get Yourself Together
Now, you then want to focus on staying organized as much as you can. Pack anything you possibly can in advance just to get some jobs ticked off. Do some meal prep so that you all have things to eat as you move. And know where you are at each stage to avoid stress and worries that you’ve forgotten something.  
  1. Let Go Of Expectations
Finally, you need to make sure that you’re expectation-free during the entire thing. Don’t set yourself up for failure. Expectations can be dangerous and will often disappoint you. So just know that you’ll make it happen and you’ll find that you’re able to get through it without really breaking a sweat.  ]]>
