Why A Low-Fat Diet Isn’t Necessarily Trouble-Free

What do you do if you want to lose weight? You cut down on fats. Fat is the unappealing layer that covers your muscles and body, so by reducing your intake, you’re bound to become thinner. It sounds logical, particularly as low and zero-fats are all the rage in the 21st-century, but the reality is different.

As it happens, sticking a low-fat diet might cause more trouble than you ever anticipated. You don’t know it, yet there are serious side-effects that you should consider before committing. Here are four that could make you rethink your eating habits.

Fat-free = Taste-free

Okay, so not every recipe that is low in fat is going to taste bland or boring. Some of them are incredibly delicious and well worth the effort. However, for the most part, it’s harder to make meals taste good when you remove the most flavoursome components. Whether you like it or not, fats are packed with flavour. Therefore, extracting them from your diet entirely could lead you to get tired of your routine. Once this occurs, the likelihood of sticking to a schedule will drop dramatically as you’ll hate the monotony of preparing the same dishes. The moral of the story – a little fat goes a long way!

You Need Quite A Lot

Everybody knows that fats are essential requirements of a healthy diet. That means they’re necessary whether you want to maintain your current weight or try to shift a few pounds. What you might not realise is how many you need to consume per day. The Department of Health says that fats shouldn’t make up more than 35% of the foods you eat, which is a significant number. The trick is to ensure they’re the types of fats that are good for you, such as: 

  • Polyunsaturated fats – found in nuts, seeds, sunflower and sesame oils
  • Monounsaturated fats – found in olive and rapeseed oils, nuts, seeds and avocado
  • Omega-3 fatty acids – found in fish

Fats Absorb CBD

CBD, or cannabinoids, are relatively new to the public’s consciousness. Previously, it was common to assume that you can only get CBD through smoking marijuana. However, right now, there are from CBD gummies to vape pens and oils. Cannabinoids are proven to aid weight loss, yet a fat-free diet makes it harder to absorb the ingredient as it boosts absorption rates by as much as four times. Without fats, the good kinds, your CBD levels will drop and losing weight will become harder.

It’s Not A Miracle Cure

Sadly, eliminating fats from your diet could lead you to think that you’re doing enough to lose weight and stay healthy. Of course, the only way to ensure this is to lead an active lifestyle, which includes watching what foods and drinks you consume, exercising regularly, and preventing stress. If you don’t do all three of these, you won’t reach your wellbeing goals, and consuming a low-fat diet changes your mentality as you’ll think, “I’m not eating fats, so I don’t have to exercise.”
