i Love that my Daughters Love Reading

As a child, books were my sanctuary. Nestled in the corners of my small room in our council estate, I would find myself lost in the maze-like libraries of Hogwarts, navigating the wild landscapes of Middle Earth, and exploring the depths of the Atlantic with Captain Nemo. These were my great escapes from the reality of a tough school life. They were different worlds away and they gave me an inkling of what was out there, waiting for me.

Each page turned was a new experience, a new adventure. I was learning, growing and travelling without ever leaving my room. But most importantly, these books instilled in me a thirst for knowledge, a drive to better myself. From Roald Dahl to J.K. Rowling, from Charles Dickens to Jane Austen, each author had a unique voice, a unique worldview, and through their words, I was learning about humanity, empathy, and the endless possibilities which lay beyond my council estate.

Fast-forward a few decades and my love for books has not waned. But more than that, I see the same flame ignited in my daughters. Beth, my youngest, mirrors my childhood reading habits. Armed with a torch under her blanket, she dives headfirst into the world of books, her eyes wide with wonder and her mind hungry for the adventures bound within the pages. She’s not just reading, she’s experiencing, she’s growing, and she’s escaping into the realms of fantasy, mystery, and knowledge.

The joy I feel knowing that my daughters share the same passion for reading is indescribable. It’s more than just a hobby, it’s a pathway to self-discovery, to a world of ideas, and to the power of imagination. The love for reading is a gift, and I am beyond grateful that my daughters have embraced it with open arms. As they turn each page, my heart swells with pride, and I can’t wait to see where their next literary adventure takes them.
