Prestbury Golf Club, Macclesfield Golf Course Review

When you get invited to a Top 100 Golf Course and the 5th best golf course in Cheshire, you kind of have to drop everything and get yourself down there.

Walking down the first, with fairways like carpet, it’s easy to see this is a heritage course with rolling fairways, hidden traps, well-matured trees throughout and a clubhouse you could imagine many a golf story being shared.

I always say the mark of a great course is to inspire even when you play sh*t. That’s exactly what I did and how I felt coming off the 18th, as well as tired and a little bit hungry.

With enough par 5’s to keep the woods working, it’s also a course to plot your way around and one you’ll definitely have to play more than once. Hidden valleys, doglegs and greens that will have you kicking yourself for missing putts.

Quality green surrounds make even a missed approach a potential up and down however, you’ll also have to ensure you’re the right side of the flag as there could be a 5 putt on the cards if not (Not mentioning names!)

I had a great four ball to play with that made my round a little bit more tolerable. We joked our way round and I must say, my flapjack went down a treat on the 9th, inspiring John to play about 7 under his handicap on the last 9.

Shot of the day has to be hitting the pin on the 11th (I think) with his tee shot and sinking the putt for a 2.

Some of the holes didn’t look long off the card, but the slightly damp fairways with actual grass on, sometimes uphill, made them longer. Alex with an awesome fairway wood from about 280 out, saw an eagle putt set up on the back nine.

A shot to remember has to be this one.

With about 150 in, Gareth plays for a members bounce off the slope, it rolls down, past the bunker to 4 foot and his first birdie. Played for it of course 🙂

The course has a small but well-stocked pro shop with hireable Powakaddy and enough balls to see you around the course. There’s a grass practice area with proper greens to chip on, a putting green that’s exactly like the course and a bar with a great selection.

There isn’t too much to say about a course when it truly is this amazing.

You just need to play it.
