Many people dream about moving to the countryside. There are entire TV shows devoted to it. In years gone by, it has only really been an option for those who are retired, have a lot of money,  or don’t need to commute to work every day.

Now that remote working is becoming much more common, you don’t necessarily need to wait to make your dream of living in the country come true.

Here are some of the benefits of living in the countryside.

Cheaper property

Anyone who has ever lived in a city or it’s suburbs will know just how expensive it can be. This money can go much further in many parts of the countryside. So you can either take advantage and save a lot of money on property or stick with a similar property cost but get a far more luxurious and spacious property.

From homely cottages to spacious barn conversions, there are a lot of types to choose from depending on the style of living you want. If you’re looking to be self-sufficient, you can find a property that has room for vegetable gardens, livestock, and companies such as Nicholls can excavate a borehole so that you can have a water supply to the property as well.

Slower pace of life

This is one of the more attractive aspects of country living. Getting away from the hustle and bustle, the traffic and people can be very refreshing and really take the stress off. Of course, some people thrive in a city environment and love that aspect of city living.

If you’re wanting to slow down, either because it suits you, or for health reasons, then a change of pace can be just the thing.

Lower crime rates

In general, rural areas have much lower levels of crime than many urban areas. This is primarily down to there being fewer people in the area. If this is a priority for you, then a move to the countryside is a good decision.

A sense of community

It’s often the case that rural communities tend to be closer. After all, it’s difficult to say hi or stop for a chat with people you meet in a busy city. So while there may not be as many people around you in the countryside, it often feels like there’s a better sense of friendliness and community out in the countryside.

To be closer to nature

Last but by certainly no means least is the countryside itself. If you’re tired of the concrete jungles of the city, then having the countryside right on your doorstep could be a dream come true.

Being in nature has been shown to have positive effects on both our physical and mental health. These benefits include being more active, reduced stress, improved mood and increased self-esteem.

Final thoughts

If it’s your dream to move to the country, then now is a great time to do it. There are many advantages to doing this which can improve your health and quality of life too.
