I've a Messy Desk! I'm Creative :)

If you’re like me and have loads of plates spinning at the same time there’s a chance you may bring work home or be working on a project. Too many people say I have a disorganised desk but I prefer to call it organised chaos. It can be hard to keep the space under control, but then it becomes a distracting place where it’s hard to get work done. I’ve had a look at how I can make my desk an easier place to work, get those creative juices flowing and work my magic!

Step 1

Clear Out the Junk

Your first task should be to clean out any junk you have in your office. If there are piles of files and other assorted items, you need to think about what to do with them. There are some things you don’t need to keep in the office. You can either get rid of them completely or store them somewhere else. For example, you might have some folders of documents you don’t need permanent access to. Getting a company to collect boxes of your stuff is the handy alternative to self storage. You can store things you don’t need so they’re not taking up space in your home. And you won’t have to visit the storage unit when you want your things back.

Step 2

Organise Wires and Tech (I love wires, I also love tech)

Wires can take over everything in any office. Your office equipment and gadgets have cables everywhere, and it can be hard to keep them under control. They make everything look messy, and they can be a tripping hazard too. Fortunately, it’s easy to organise your cables and the rest of your tech. You can use anything from cable ties to clips and specially designed organising systems. Try to tuck wires behind your desk or run them along the bottom of walls. You can also hide away items like printers in drawers and cupboards.

Office JengaStep 3

Store things sensibly, not in piles on top of mugs. Of course I don’t do that 😉

If you want to organise your office and keep it organised, you need a system. Everything should have its place so that junk doesn’t build up. There are lots of things that can help you to put everything in the right place. For example, you can have a tray to put your post or a filing cabinet for important documents. You could have a noticeboard so you can pin up notes instead of having them litter your desk.

Step 4

Keep Your Desk Clear

One of the most important things about an organised home office is your desk. It can quickly get cluttered and distract you from your work. If you want to keep it clean, you can’t just tidy it up once. You need to stay on top of it by clearing it regularly. How often you need to do it can depend on how messy you are. Some people will need to do it every day, others every week or two.   Once you have organised your home office, keep it in good order. You have to keep working at it to stop the junk piling up again. It may be organised chaos, but it’s chaos and organised harmony works better. Now where’s my brew! 🙂]]>
