When you first start your business, there’s a good chance that you’re just going to rely on working from home or even in coworking spaces with a laptop. However, as your company grows, the likelihood of requiring a dedicated workspace increases and you’ll need to start thinking about how and where you’re going to move.

So in this article, we’re going to cover the challenges of relocating your startup office and how you can overcome them with ease.

1. Finding a location that is easily accessible

One of the issues with recruiting employees is that you’re limited to a local area unless you rely on remote workers. Unfortunately, this means that you’re going to need to pick a prime spot if you want the best recruits to show up for an interview. Some factors that can affect this include transportation links, nearby amenities and even the neighbourhood. By focusing on a location that is easily accessible, you greatly increase your chances of finding more talented recruits and open yourself up to a wider range of employment opportunities.

2. Do you need to stop your business for a while?

There are many startups that will likely need to close their doors for a short amount of time while moving. This will either be due to a lack of staff or because all of the equipment needed to operate the business is in transit. As a result, you’ll need to prepare a statement for your audience or at least find a way to continue being productive while you relocate.

3. Storing your documents while you move

If you’ve got a lot of documents in storage then you’re likely going to need a service such as Grange Removals document storage to help you move those records around unless you have a solution already. For example, if you’re able to hire a van to carry around boxes of records or if you’re planning on digitising them, then you don’t need to worry so much. However, if you have boxes of records and documents, or even product stock left over in your garage, then you’re going to need some kind of removals service.

4. Calculating the expenses

Moving your business should be considered a business expense so it’s important to budget for the move to see just how much the entire move will cost, but you should also consider how much you lose from relocating as well. For instance, if you have to close down your business for the duration of your move then you’ll likely lose a bit of profit. You may also lose a bit of profit from the setup time required to get your business back into action, and the cost of renting another location may also increase. If you’re going to move location, then these are factors that must be considered in your business budget.

With these challenges in mind, it’s possible to drastically lower the negative impact that moving your office will have on your business. While it’s not the most expensive or troublesome thing you’ll do as a business owner, it certainly takes a lot of planning.
