Have you ever had one of those days where you just woke up, looked around your home, caught a view of yourself in the mirror, and realised that everything was a mess, and you didn’t know where to start turning it all around?

The world around us is naturally chaotic. That’s just the way it is. But there are always things we can do to push back against the chaos, put our own lives in order, and work to achieve our dreams and improve our circumstances.

If you want to turn your life around, it’s generally the case that you need to start small. And one of the smallest yet most powerful areas where you can start is with your clothes.

Here are a few reasons why you should start with your clothes when trying to turn things around.

  1. First and foremost, because the clothes you wear impact how you perceive yourself

Do you think you would feel more like a serious professional if you were wearing a stylish dress shirt from https://www.dobell.co.uk/mens/formalwear/dress-shirts/, or if you were wearing a worn out T-shirt with over-the-top cartoon graphics and funny quotes?

First and foremost, the reason why you should start with your clothes when trying to turn your life around, is because what you wear will have a major impact on how you perceive yourself.

It’s extremely difficult to move your life forward in a positive direction, if you fundamentally don’t believe you’re up to the task. By simply changing up the way you dress, you can change your perception of your own abilities.

  1. Because to turn things around, you need to be able to impose order on your life – and taking control of what you wear is a great starting point

Turning things around in your life implies that you are in control of things – at least, your own actions and reactions, if not your surroundings and the world at large.

In order to do anything to move your life in a particular direction, you need to find something that you can latch onto, manage, and impose order on. Your clothes are a great starting point, partly because wearing better clothes will make you feel so much better, and partly because anyone can change their outfit without a monumental effort.

Then, once you’ve got your outfit and personal presentation in order, you can work on sorting out your house, then your career, and so on.

  1. Because the attention to detail that is involved in picking out a good outfit can play a major role in success in other areas of life.

Picking out a good outfit requires a significant degree of attention to detail. And the more seriously you come to take your personal presentation, the more attentive you have to be to the small but essential details.

Do you have the right cufflinks for that shirt? Have you polished your shoes? Does the fabric of your shirt complement the style of your waistcoat? And so on.

As a general rule, the more attentive you are to detail in life as a whole, the better you can expect to do. Becoming really thoughtful about the clothes you wear can be an excellent way of developing that sense of attention to detail.
