Be Frugal but Spend Wisely in the Sales

The transition period between two years marks a very special occasion: mass sales! Being in a frugal state, my family needs to ensure that we don’t overspend but do is wisely. The post-holiday season is ripe with amazing deals, fresh new offers and clearance items that retailers can’t wait to get rid of. But however cheap these things can get, it’s important to remember that you can’t just go in and buy up everything unless you want to be in some serious debt. With that warning aside, here are some of the best ways to make the most of your new year’s shopping. Browse Online There are many stores around the world that operate online only. Places such as Amazon and eBay will have hundreds of deals for you to dive into, and it could cover everything from scented candles to gym equipment. The best way to check for online deals is to head to a deal site where regular consumers post their best finds for others to see. You’re also welcome to post your own deals that you find. If there’s something that you wanted the previous year but couldn’t afford it, chances are there’s going to be some kind of sale waiting for you. Even if you have to finance it, you can check out some bad credit catalogues to snatch up the latest electronics and gadgets without overspending. Just only spend if you REALLY need to! Check the Shops The internet might have hundreds and thousands of sales, but that doesn’t mean brick and mortar stores should be forgotten. In many cases, the best deals are found in retail stores because they need to get rid of stock that they couldn’t sell over new years. You might be wondering “isn’t that just the unwanted items?” and you’d be right. There will be clothes that have a single size left, or winter jackets that won’t be needed in the coming weeks. However, that’s no reason to skip out on some amazing deals, and the cheap prices could make them excellent gifts for future occasions. If you’re lucky, you’ll run into a fancy shirt or new jacket that you want, and the only size they have left suits you perfectly! Stock Up on Food Like with department stores, many of the seasonal items will likely be thrown away. Turkey meat or whole turkeys will be out of fashion because they’re usually only eaten for Christmas, but that means you’ll be able to find some amazing deals on different types of food. They might be going off or past their sell by date soon, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stock up on some frozen goodies and meat which can be cooked and eaten over the next couple of weeks. There are probably hundreds of cheap frozen festive treats, meats and vegetables that are just waiting to be snatched up. Cookies, biscuits, festive gifts and even alcoholic drinks will all be on sale as supermarkets want to get rid of their excess stock to make room for new arrivals. This is a great time to start out a new diet because all of the “expensive” healthy foods will most likely be on sale and at hugely discounted prices.]]>
